The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has issued a definitive mandate for the demolition of structures deemed to have been illegally constructed on land parcels specifically allocated to foreign diplomatic missions.

The affected properties are situated within the prestigious diplomatic zone of the Katampe extension in the nation’s capital. The Minister’s directive underscores the administration’s commitment to upholding the integrity of urban planning and respecting international bilateral land agreements.

The Honourable Minister disclosed the enforcement measure during an extensive inspection tour of various ongoing developmental projects across the Federal Capital Territory. Addressing a gallery of journalists, Mr Wike emphasised that the FCTA would not tolerate the encroachment or unauthorised development of territories reserved for international organisations and foreign sovereign missions.

“The structures in question have been meticulously identified as being in flagrant violation of the master plan,” the Minister remarked. He asserted that the restoration of the diplomatic zone is paramount to maintaining Abuja’s standing as a disciplined and legally compliant seat of government.

Regarding the culpability behind the illegal developments, Minister Wike confirmed that a prominent developer, identified as Kabiru Sahara, has been apprehended by law enforcement agencies. The Minister stated that Mr Sahara is currently in custody and will face rigorous prosecution upon the conclusion of the ongoing police investigations.

“The individual responsible for these unauthorised constructions has been arrested,” Wike noted. “Once the investigation reaches its natural conclusion, the full weight of the law shall be applied to serve as a deterrent to others who may contemplate similar acts of administrative defiance.”
