The gruesome killing and dismemberment of SP Bako Angbashim, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ahoada Division, last Friday, has continued to generate reactions from well meaning Nigerians, including The Eze Ekpeye Logbo III of Ekpeye Ethnic Nation, His Imperial Majesty, Eze Sir Amb Kelvin Ngozi Anugwo.
The Royal Father expressed shock at the killing of Angbashim, and called on “the leadership of Ekpeye Youth Congress, the Apex youth body in Ekpeye land to swing into action, collaborate with security agencies and the government of Rivers State in ensuring the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of the hideous act,” Africa Update reports.
In a statement signed on Saturday September 9, Eze Ekpeye logbo said: I, His Imperial Majesty, Eze Sir Amb Kelvin Ngozi Anugwo, PhD, CNA, FNIM, MNIMN, SFALPP, DSSRS, JP, AP, The Eze Ekpeye Logbo III of Ekpeye Ethnic Nation, Akalaka XII condemns in its entirety the gruesome murder of Superintendent of Police; SP Bako Angbashim, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) serving in Ahoada Police Division by some suspected cultists in Odiemudie community in Akoh Kingdom of Ahoada East Local Government Area in Rivers State.
I express huge shock on the grisly killing of the galant police officer SP Bako during a combat with some criminal elements while discharging his lawful duties in Ahoada East Local Government Area.
Recall that on the 26th of August, 2023 at the Uzugbani Ekpeye Congress which was held at Ekpeye House in Igbu Ehuda Kingdom of Ahoada East LGA of Rivers State, I made a decree banning bearing of arms and thereby winding up the amnesty programme initiated by the Eze Ekpeye Logbo-in-Council.
I charge the leadership of Ekpeye Youth Congress, the Apex youth body in Ekpeye land to swing into action, collaborate with security agencies and the government of Rivers State in ensuring the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of the hideous act.
while I reiterate my commitment in ensuring a safe and secured environment for citizens and investors, I appeal to residents to remain calm as they go about their lawful businesses, and cooperate with security agencies by providing relevant information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of the fulsome act as security is a collective responsibility.
I wish to categorically state that Ekpeye people are very peaceful and loving but for the few criminal elements that want to dent the good image of the ethnic group. They have failed as efforts are on to collaborate with government and security agencies to fish these criminal elements out so that Ekpeye will know peace.
I wish to further call on residents to remain vigilante and report any form of suspicious movements and activities within their surroundings to security agencies.
I pray God to grant the family of the slain police officer, the Nigerian Police Force, Government of Rivers State and indeed, the Federal Government the fortitude to bear the loss of such a galant, diligent, dutiful and professional police officer.
