Abuja—A pall of deep mourning has fallen over the family of the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Patrick Abba Moro, following the heart-wrenching loss of his son and grandson in a devastating sequence of events that unfolded within a 48-hour period.
Senator Moro, who represents the Benue South senatorial district (Zone C), is grappling with what close associates are calling a double tragedy after his son, Victor Moro, and his ten-year-old grandson, Aba Moro Jr., both passed away in quick succession.
The ordeal began with the death of the Senator’s grandson, Aba Moro Jr. Tragically, the family’s sorrow was compounded barely two days later when his son, Victor Moro, was killed in a fatal motor accident along the Mararaba axis in Nasarawa State.
Victor Moro’s death is particularly devastating, as he had only recently returned to Nigeria from Turkey after successfully completing his studies abroad. He was preparing to commence the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme when his life was tragically cut short while traveling from the family home on personal matters.
The unexpected and rapid succession of losses has thrown the prominent political family and its extensive network of friends and allies into shock and profound grief.
The incident has drawn immediate reactions from political figures in Benue State and across the country.
Former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, issued a condolence message on Monday, describing the tragedy as a loss that “words can hardly express.”
Ortom highlighted the poignancy of Victor’s death, saying: “The death of Victor Moro, a young man full of promise who had just completed his studies in Turkey and returned home to serve his country under the National Youth Service Corps, only for his life to be cut short in a fatal motor accident is especially devastating.”
He acknowledged the unimaginable pain of the double loss for the Senator and his family, offering prayers for strength during this time of sorrow.
“This is indeed a moment of deep pain and sorrow for my brother and friend, Senator Abba Moro. No words are enough to console a father in this kind of situation. My heart goes out to him and the entire family,” Ortom concluded.
