GDI, PDP Alive, On Ground In DELGA– Chief Amaewhule
It was a gathering of sea of heads, as multitude of people thronged Degema, the administrative headquarters of Degema Local Government Area for the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI) Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVC) Collection Sensitization Rally.
The event, which was used to sensitize and mobilize the people of Degema LGA and by extension, the people of the State, attracted the crème de la crème in Rivers State, including its Deputy Governor and Rivers West Senatorial District Candidate, Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, Rivers PDP Governorship Candidate, Amaopusenibo Siminialayi Fubara, amongst scores others.
Addressing the mammoth crowd at the event, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, commended the Executive Chairman of Degema LGA, Hon. Michael John Williams and the leadership of the GDI and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for working harmoniously to keep the party afloat in the LGA.
He noted that the gathering was not for political reason, but to sensitize the people to fully collect their PVCs and keep them safe, to use them at the right time.
Sir Fubara added that the people of Degema LGA do not need to be told which party to vote for, because they know better, the way to go.
“Our mission here is very simple. We are not asking you to vote here, because we know that when it gets to the time of voting, you know what to do.
“We are done with registration; it is now time for collection, so our duty here is to ensure that every PVC belonging to GDI and PDP members from Ward 1 to Ward 17 in Degema, are collected.
“We are not campaigning, we are only here to encourage our supporters, who have stood with us, even in the face of the political drama, when people are saying that GDI is no longer in this axis of the State.
“We have come here today to see with our own eyes and I can tell you that I am seeing ‘sand sand’ (mammoth crowd) here, which means that GDI and PDP are fully on ground in Degema LGA,” Sim Fubara stated.
He commended the elders and leaders of the LGA for working in synergy and supporting the GDI to stand strong, praying God to continue to bless and strengthen Degema LGA.
On her part, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, who noted that the PVC would play a key role in the 2023 general elections, enjoined the people of the LGA to collect, secure and use their PVCs rightly.
The Executive Chairman of Degema LGA, Hon. Michael John Williams, while noting that Degema LGA tops the rank in PVC collection in the State, urged the people of the LGA to ensure to collect up to the last PVC and use it wisely.
He expressed confidence that the people of Degema LGA would elect credible candidates, who would follow the footsteps of Governor Nyesom Wike, adding that the governor had performed creditably well.
Also speaking, Leader of the PDP in DELGA and former Chairman of the LGA, Hon. Pleasant Braide, who commended Governor Wike for doing so much for the LGA, assured that Degema would deliver the PDP in 2023, as it had never lost any election in the LGA since 1999.
On his part, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Chief Engr. Emeka Woke, stated that telling the people of Degema LGA to collect their PVCs was like preaching to the already converted, as according to him, “the LGA is fully and totally Simplified.”
He berated some group of people, who claimed to have endorsed a particular governorship candidate under the guise of South-South elders and leaders, whereas their make-up was just from one ethnic nationality, out of the several states of the region.
Chief Woke, while urging the people of Kalabari not to allow themselves to be used by political jobbers, noted that the era of ethnic politics were over, assuring that the Governorship Candidate of the PDP, Sir Siminialayi Fubara would carry every interest in the State along.
In his solidarity speech, the President-General of GDI, Chief Hon. Bright Amaewhule, declared that GDI is alive and very much on ground in Degema LGA, urging members to not only obtain their PVCs, but to ensure that they use them to vote for candidates of their choices and follow up their votes until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) transmits them to their server.
