AUCHI, Nigeria — A tragic multi-vehicle accident in Edo State has left three people dead and one person seriously injured. The crash, which occurred over the weekend on the Auchi–Okpella–Okene road, involved a Dangote truck and three other vehicles, including a Mercedes GLK.
Witnesses and authorities reported that the fatal incident took place near the Omega Fire Ministry in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area. The Dangote truck, which was traveling towards Benin, is said to have suffered a brake failure, causing it to lose control and collide with the three other vehicles. The impact was so severe that the Mercedes GLK was damaged beyond repair.
The Edo State Sector Commander for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, confirmed the details of the crash, stating that a total of six people were involved. Among the victims, three tragically lost their lives—two males and one female. The remaining two individuals in the other vehicles escaped unhurt, while one person from the Mercedes was injured.
Mathew has since issued a public safety warning, urging truck drivers to prioritize the proper maintenance of their vehicles and to exercise caution on the roads. He emphasized the importance of avoiding overspeeding, noting that it gives drivers a better chance of controlling their vehicles and preventing fatalities in the event of a mechanical failure.
