The political landscape of Osun State has undergone a significant transformation as the internationally acclaimed Afrobeats musician, David Adeleke better known as Davido announced his intention to formally enrol in the Accord Party.
This development follows the recent defection of his uncle, the Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency Ademola Adeleke, who has departed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to seek re-election under the Accord banner.
Taking to his social media platforms on Tuesday, the Grammy-nominated artist confirmed that he would be travelling to the state capital, Osogbo, to collect his official membership credentials.
“I shall be present in Osun to receive my Accord Party membership card at Imole House, Osogbo,” the singer communicated to his followers, signalling his unwavering support for his uncle’s renewed political trajectory.
Governor Adeleke officially declared his allegiance to the Accord Party during a high-profile assembly at the Government House Banquet Hall on 9th December 2025. The Governor revealed that his transition was not a sudden impulse but the result of extensive deliberations.
“I joined the Accord Party on the 6th of November as a principled platform upon which to seek a second mandate in 2026,” the Governor stated. He further explained that the party’s “welfarist philosophy” perfectly mirrors his administration’s commitment to the prosperity and wellbeing of the citizenry.
The Governor’s exit from the PDP, formally announced on 1st December, was attributed to the “persistent and unresolved leadership crises” at the party’s national level. Records indicate that His Excellency had submitted his letter of resignation to his ward in Ede North as early as 4th November 2025.
Davido, who has long been a vocal advocate for his uncle’s administration, had previously hinted at his support for the move by reposting the Governor’s resignation with the cryptic yet supportive caption, “Jeje.”
With the 2026 gubernatorial election appearing on the horizon, the Governor expressed immense confidence in the durability of his mandate. “Osun voted for integrity and good governance in 2022, and I am certain they shall support the continuity of our progress in 2026,” he remarked.
The formal entry of Davido into the Accord Party is expected to galvanise the youth electorate and further solidify the “Adeleke Dynasty’s” influence within this new political vehicle.
