Court rejects Rivers State Attorney General’s application

The Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, last week, rejected an oral application made by the Attorney General of Rivers State, Emmanuel Aguma, to stay proceedings on an appeal brought by 22 council chairmen, who were elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), during the administration of former Governor Chibuike Amaechi .

The Attorney General had requested the Court to stay proceedings on the suit, pending hearing and determination of an appeal at the Supreme Court, challenging earlier decision of the court of Appeal to grant leave to the sacked council chairmen to challenge their removal by the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.

In her ruling, Justice Obi Mbaduwa, held that the oral application made by the Attorney General, was inappropriate and asked him to file a proper application on stay of proceedings.
