Court Dismisses Application for Interim Administrators in Herbert Wigwe’s Estate
Ikeja, Lagos State – A bid to appoint interim administrators for the estate of the late Herbert Wigwe, former Access Bank CEO, has been rejected by the Lagos State High Court. Justice A.O. Adeyemi, presiding over the Family/Probate Court in Ikeja, dismissed the application filed by Christian and Shyngle Wigwe on February 6, 2025, citing that their claims were unsustainable.
The applicants, in a suit allegedly orchestrated by Emeka Wigwe (ID/7735FPM/2024), named Access Bank Plc, Coronation Merchant Bank Ltd, United Securities Ltd, Uche Wigwe, Aigboje A.I.G. Imoukhuede, and Otutochi Channel Wigwe as defendants. They sought the appointment of interim administrators and requested guardianship of Wigwe’s minor children.
Justice Adeyemi determined that the applicants’ requests mirrored those in the main suit and were thus premature for consideration at the interlocutory stage. The court also pointed to an existing judgment from a competent court that had already appointed the third defendant as the children’s legal guardian.
The court emphasized the need for an expedited trial in the substantive suit, urging legal counsel to avoid unnecessary delays, especially given the sensitive nature of matters involving minors.
