A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos State has declared the 45 per cent tariff increase by the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) as illegal and has directed its immediate reversal on Wednesday.
The court ruled that the implementation of the huge increase constitutes a violation of its interim order and awarded N50,000 cost against NERC.
It will be recalled that the electricity regulators raised the tariffs which took effect despite a resolution of the National Assembly and a restraining court order against the policy.
