Kano, Nigeria — A set of conjoined twins, who were successfully separated in a surgery sponsored by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, have returned to Nigeria after two years of medical care. The twins, Hassana and Hussaina, were welcomed at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Thursday by the Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Governor Yusuf assured the twins’ parents that his administration would take full responsibility for the children’s welfare, including their feeding, healthcare, education, and other essential needs.
The twins’ parents, Hassan Isa and Suwaiba Basiru, expressed their profound gratitude to the Saudi government for funding and carrying out the complex surgery without complications. Saudi authorities will continue to monitor the twins’ health for one year following their return.
The girls were born conjoined and underwent the free surgical separation in October 2023.
