A civil servant , Dee Nwankwo, 52, , who worked at the Abia State Ministry of Lands and Survey, took his life on Sunday  over alleged unpaid salary. According to a family source,  his wife and three children had returned home from church, to find his lifeless body  dangling from the ceiling fan  in the sitting room and a suicide note that Sunday afternoon. It was reported that unknown to the victim’s family, he had declined accompanying them to church on the fateful day because he wanted to kill himself. A close friend of the deceased said the victim had met him on Saturday to beg for rice for his family, but he was unable to assist the deceased with his request and expressed shock that he could decide to kill himself. It was further revealed that the deceased had purported in his suicide letter that his decision to kill himself was due to his inability to meet the needs of his family, following months or unpaid salary . Reacting to the sad incident, a press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Abia State Government,  Mr. Godwin Adindu,  disclosed that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has hinted that he would take necessary actions when he is properly briefed and  vowed to investigate the real cause of death to establish if it had anything to do with salary arrears; and described the incident as very unfortunate.  However,  the corpse and suicide note have been handed over to the police .
