Speculations about a possible sanction of the Minister of Transportation and leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for allegedly engaging in anti party activities have finally come to an end.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Lanre Issa-Onilu, on March 27, said the minister had not engaged in any anti-party activities, contrary to insinuations by some party faithfuls who have questioned the rational behind the party’s silence over the adoption of the Governorship candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, in Rivers State, Biokpomabo Awara.
Speaking at an interactive session with reporters in Abuja, on the party’s decision not to suspend Amaechi, despite suspending Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, he said; “Though the APC does not have governorship candidate in Rivers, the people of the state were very important to the party. Whatever has happened in Rivers, and whatever Amaechi has done, is completely normal and acceptable to this party.
“If we have the opportunity of working with a party that will abide by our principles, it is within our right to work with such a party to ensure that we free the people of Rivers from hardship.”
You will recall that the Imo State Governor, Okorocha, was suspended indefinitely from the party, for supporting the governorship candidate of Action Alliance, Uche Nwosu against Hope Uzodinma of APC. Both candidates, however, lost to Emeka Ihedioha of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
