Buhari repositions WAI brigade

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has disclosed that the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) brigade  would be rebranded to Change Begins with Me (CBWM) to instill social order and public morality in Nigerians in line with current challenges in the Country.

The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Garba Abari gave the hint at a workshop organised by the agency  for national and state Commanders of Community Support Brigade (CSB) in Abuja on Monday.

According to a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Press, at NOA, Mr. Fidel Agu, it revealed that WAI would be repositioned in the current dispensation of the change mantra.

The NOA Boss said, “The ills and woes that bedeviled the nation at that time are still very much with us today. That is why, when the NOA was established in 1983, the WAI Brigade was automatically drafted to be part and parcel of the agency to fight against indiscipline, disorderly behaviour in public and private places, disobedience to traffic rules and regulations, disrespect for constituted authorities, filthy environment, bribery, corruption and other social vices.”

Abari recalled that President Buhari first introduced the brigade during his reign as the military Head of State from 1984 to 1985, to make Nigerians imbibe new social standards and to fight corruption.
