A Chief Magistrate Court in Kano,  presided over by Chief Magistrate Maryam Sabo,  turned down bail application filed before it by two accused persons Hafsatu Musa and Zainab Murtala, in the trial involving a 20-month-old  child, Murtala Musa.
The two accused persons, the child’s grandmother Hafsatu Musa and stepmother,  Zainab Murtala, were arraigned before the court for fracturing his two legs, fracturing of his hands in six places, destruction of his testicles, inflicting injuries to his forehead,  ear and eyes and extraction of three of his teeth.
In her ruling at the resumed hearing on Thursday, Chief Magistrate Sabo instructed that the two accused persons be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to July 21, 2016 for continuation of the trial.
Earlier,  counsel to the accused persons Barrister Mukthar Shehu had filed a bail application but the prosecuting Counsel, Inspector Shuaibu Musa, argued that the offence committed by the accused persons was very grievous and requested the rejection of their application.
