A lawyer aged 47, identified as Udeme Odibi, has butchered her husband, Otike Odibi, aged 50, at Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, Ajah, Lagos State on Thursday.
According to reports, the deceased, was found lying on the bed in a pool of blood with his stomach ripped open, exposing his intestines, while his genitals were cut off and placed at his right hand.
Eyewitness account revealed that Udeme had allegedly threatened to kill her husband on Wednesday when a disagreement ensued and the victim who was a lawyer, had informed a neighbour, his mother and younger sister complaining of threat to his life on that night, before going to bed.
He was reportedly warned to be careful, but unfortunately, the wife made good her threats and he was found dead on Thursday morning.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State, Chike Oti, in a statement, said the couple had endured three years of marriage fraught with domestic violence.
He said the couple did not have any child together, although Otike had a daughter in his previous marriage.
Oti, a Superintendent of Police, stated that a distress call was put across to the Divisional Police Officer, Ogombo division, around 7.30am as regards the murder.
The statement reads: “Today 3rd of May, 2018, the Divisional Police Officer, Ogombo, Ajah, Lagos, received a distress call at about 0730hrs, that one Mr. Mike Odibi, was allegedly killed in his home at Diamond Estate, Sango-Tedo, Lagos, by his wife, one Mrs Udeme Odibi.
“Based on the information, the DPO mobilised a team of detectives to the scene where they found the man lying on the bed in the pool of his own blood, with his stomach ripped open exposing the intestine. As if that was not enough, the killer severed his genital and placed it on his right hand.
“However, before the arrival of the Police, Mrs Udeme who had unsuccessfully attempted to commit suicide after allegedly killing her husband, was rushed to the hospital for treatment by neighbours.
“Sequel to the above, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Edgal Imohimi, directed Crime Scene Detectives from the homicide section of the SCID Panti Yaba and Forensic experts to the scene to aid in the investigation.
“Eyewitness account revealed that the couple both whom are lawyers, were married three years ago after the deceased divorced his first wife. The deceased first marriage produced a daughter currently schooling in the UK. However the current marriage is said to be without a child.
“Further information from a neighbour, revealed that the deceased called him on phone in the night before he was murdered, complaining that the wife was threatening to kill him with a knife. The said neighbour however warned him to be careful. The deceased also called his mother and his younger sister complaining of threat to his life that fateful night.”
