Black Thursday as Tanker explodes at Eliozu

It was a very gloomy Thursday morning for the people of Port Harcourt as a tanker conveying substance suspected to be petroleum product overturned and exploded around 5am on Thursday 29th, August, around Eliozu Bridge on G. U. Ake road, Obio-Akpor Local Government area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The tanker explosion which might have caught some residents of the area in their sleep, is the second in less than four months to take place at that same spot. It destroyed properties worth millions of Naira including an event and catering center worth over N500 million, shops, houses, cars, a church and other structures located within the vicinity. The number of casualties is uncertain.

Members of the Rivers State fire service and Shell fire service were at the scene battling to put out the inferno. Road safety personnel were also at the scene trying to help control the traffic deadlock caused by the explosion.
