Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has formally announced the commencement of the sale of expression of interest forms across the federation in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released via its verified account on the social media platform X on Tuesday, the party leadership outlined the procedural requirements and financial concessions for prospective candidates seeking elective office.
In a bid to foster inclusivity within the political process, the APC has introduced significant fee waivers for specific demographics. According to the communique, female aspirants, youths, and persons living with disabilities are required to purchase the expression of interest form but will benefit from a 50 per cent reduction in the prescribed nomination fees for all positions.
The party further clarified that the existing zoning arrangements for the National Working Committee (NWC) across the various geopolitical zones remain in force. It was also noted that congresses for state and senatorial executives are scheduled to take place concurrently with the broader state congresses.
However, the party has designated specific exceptions to this schedule. The states of Ekiti, Osun, and Rivers, alongside the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are currently excluded from the ward, local government, and state congresses.
“Whilst these areas are exempt from the standard congress cycle at this stage, they will nonetheless participate in the election of three delegates to the national convention,” the statement clarified.
Embracing modern administrative standards, the party has mandated that the completion of all forms be conducted via an online portal. Prospective candidates will be granted access to both expression of interest and nomination forms only upon the successful verification of their payments and subsequent validation by the National Secretariat.
The leadership emphasised that all financial transactions must be conducted in full and paid directly into the designated bank accounts of the All Progressives Congress.
The announcement marks the official commencement of the party’s internal preparations for the next general election cycle, as stakeholders begin to position themselves for the various legislative and executive roles up for contest.
