The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has issued a message of hope and resilience to the people of the state, assuring them that “forces of justice, peace, and progress will prevail in the end.” His statement, released on Thursday through his spokesman Nelson Chukwudi in commemoration of Workers’ Day, comes amidst the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, which has led to the declaration of a state of emergency.

In his May Day address, Fubara encouraged Rivers residents to remain hopeful and united during these turbulent times. He also paid tribute to the resilience and unwavering commitment of the state’s workforce as they joined their counterparts globally to celebrate Workers’ Day 2025.

The suspended Governor lauded Rivers workers for their patriotism, integrity, and dedication to their duties, acknowledging them as the “backbone of the state’s development and beacon of hope for a better future.” He also commended President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s efforts in advancing labour reforms across the nation.

Fubara highlighted the significance of the 2025 Workers’ Day theme: “Ensuring Safety and Health at Work in a Changing Climate.” He emphasized the urgent need to safeguard workers’ well-being in the face of escalating environmental threats and the prevailing socio-political uncertainties in the state.

“This theme underscores the urgent need to protect workers amid escalating environmental threats and socio-political uncertainties,” Fubara stated. “It is a call to prioritise occupational safety and well-being as essential pillars for sustainable growth.”

He acknowledged and commended “the efforts of the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in promoting climate-conscious policies that support a healthier, safer working environment nationwide.”

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights, Fubara urged both public and private employers to uphold labour laws and respect the dignity of workers. He also advocated for continuous improvement in working conditions, stressing that providing decent work environments is not only a legal requirement but also a moral obligation.

“I offer prayers for divine wisdom and guidance for all leaders,” Fubara said. “Our administration remains committed to creating a work environment that nurtures dignity, opportunity, and prosperity for all.”
