Finally! Obo Effanga opens up on Rivers State Elections

Obo Effanga, Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC , on Wednesday, April 17, 2019,  insisted that the 2019 General Elections were conducted in line with the dictates of the law, contrary to widespread rumors of compromise and bias.

At a press conference at the INEC Headquarters in the State, he said, “I did not compromise the electoral process. My duty was to conduct an election and I did that and ensured that everybody had the opportunity to be part of the process.

“My duty is not about who wins the election. It is not my interest whether candidate A or candidate B wins. I do not regret any action I took before, during and after the elections.”

He stressed that he has no regret on the role he played during the elections, noting that his report led to the suspension of the election process, which doused the tension that was already building up during the election period.

Effanga, disclosed that the fact finding committee did not meet with candidates of political parties or representatives from political parties, but met with INEC Electoral Officers and other relevant parties involved in the election process.
