The name of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has been reinstated on the administrative block of the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area Secretariat, reversing a previous decision by the former council chairman.
Dr. Ndu Walter, the current Sole Administrator of the LGA, oversaw the restoration, effectively undoing the change implemented by Mr. Chijioke Ihunwo, an ally of the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. Mr. Ihunwo had replaced Wike’s name with that of the late rights activist, Senator Obi Wali.
A recently circulated video confirmed the reinstatement of Wike’s name, signaling a significant shift in the local political landscape.
This development occurs against the backdrop of an ongoing political crisis gripping Rivers State. President Bola Tinubu had previously intervened in March, suspending Governor Fubara and appointing Retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas as the Sole Administrator to manage the state’s affairs.
The presidential intervention followed a protracted and highly publicised dispute between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, centered on the control of the state’s political structure. The restoration of Wike’s name to the LGA secretariat is widely seen as a reflection of the evolving power dynamics within the state and the continued influence of the former governor.
