Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has expressed profound dissatisfaction with the “grossly abysmal” and “far below expectations” pace of work on the Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA) Complex project along Moscow Road in Port Harcourt. His strong condemnation came during an inspection of the site on Friday, where he issued a firm directive for an immediate and significant acceleration of work.

According to a statement signed by Hector Igbikiowubo, Senior Special Adviser on Media, Rivers State Government, Administrator Ibas made it clear that the contractor’s performance was “unacceptably slow, contrary to agreed timelines.”

“On the performance level right now, I think the contractor needs to do more. And from the reports rendered by the consultants, they are not moving fast enough, and that is not good enough. I am not satisfied with what I have seen. The pace of work is far below acceptable standards, and this is simply not good enough,” he declared.

To rectify the severe delays, Ibas issued a direct order to the contractor to immediately intensify efforts and expedite work to meet the project’s critical deadline. “This project is of strategic importance, and any further delays will not be tolerated. We must all commit to doing what is necessary to meet the expectations of the people,” he emphasized.

The Administrator further disclosed his intention to summon the contractor for a crucial meeting. This high-level engagement aims to realign efforts and ensure all parties are fully committed to the prompt delivery of the project, which is vital for the state’s governance.

Beyond the Assembly Complex, Administrator Ibas also conducted inspections of key sporting facilities in the state, including the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia, and the Alfred Diete-Spiff Sports Complex. His assessment focused on their readiness to host sporting events, driven by a desire to boost local sports infrastructure.

Ibas highlighted the impressive performances of Rivers youths in national and international competitions, underscoring the urgent need for modern, well-maintained infrastructure to properly nurture their talents. “I just went to check and see the state of those facilities. We have our state’s team participating in continental tournaments, yet we have to travel outside the state for our matches. I am sure we can do something to ensure we benefit locally. That’s precisely why we are here—to see what we can do,” he stated.

The Administrator reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to revitalizing sports infrastructure, aiming to provide athletes with world-class training facilities that will keep them competitive on the global stage.

The Rivers State Government, under Administrator Ibas, remains resolute in its pursuit of infrastructure excellence, accountability, and timely project delivery. His direct intervention signifies a strong commitment to good governance, youth development, and the holistic progress of the state.
