Several millions of Naira was lost yesterday at an Illegal kpor fire depot along the Abonnema Wharf Road, in Rivers State when fire broke out about 5pm. Though the cause of the inferno was not disclosed at the time our correspondent visited the depot, people were seen picking items from the scene.
A source who spoke with Africa Update said no life was lost or any casualties recorded. He said the depot reportedly served as a reservoir for illegally refined petroleum products. The interesting twist in the story iis the fact that depot is located adjacent a tank farm for one of the Major Oil Companies and a police post is a few poles away.
Despite efforts made by the fire service and residents to put out the raging fire, the dying flames were seen about 10am today, an indication of how intense the fire had been.
