The authorities of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH, have issued two weeks ultimatum to relatives of over 800 unclaimed corpses at the hospital’s morgue, to evacuate such corpses or risk having them buried.
This hint was given by the medical director of UPTH, Prof. Henry Ugboma, during a chat with journalists.
He said the call has become necessary due to the neglect of these corpses, which have been at the morgue for about 10 years.
He reiterated that at the expiration of the two weeks notice, the hospital would conduct mass burial for these corpses, to create space at the morgue.
