The misunderstanding between four riot policemen and soldier in the banking hall of a bank located at Calabar Road in the city center, Â quickly degenerated and caused pandemonium yesterday .
The cause of the rift which was unknown to onlookers occurred at about 11 a.m, Â inside a banking hall filled with customers. The argument led to the discharge of a canister of tear-gas which made customers flee to safety.
Africa Update gathered that the soldier was injured and his uniform  torn, while the policemen  also sustained injuries when the scuffle was put under control. The policemen, had waited outside the bank seething with anger, while the soldier remained inside the bank.
The bank premises was taken over by armed riot policemen regular policemen who obviously came on the invitation of their colleagues.  Not too long after their arrival, while the policemen were still demanding to reach the soldier, a detachment of soldiers also arrived the bank in trucks; a development that led to sporadic shooting into the air, and scampering for safety by passers-by and onlookers.
Senior officers in both camps, were however able to restore peace between the soldiers and policemen.
