3 students , DPO injured during bloody clash

A bloody clash between students of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo (RUGIPO) in Ondo State and officers of the B Division of the Nigeria Police at Otapete has left three students and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mr. Akande critically injured yesterday .
Africa Update gathered that the students had invaded the station in protest of an alleged “hit and run” accident that led to the injury of two students by a vehicle belonging to a police officer.
The students accused the police officer of abandoning their colleagues at the scene of the accident.
The police had fired shots and canisters of tear gas to disperse the students who were said to have vandalsied about 10 vehicles parked within the police station. It was further gathered that three students were hit by shots fired to disperse them.
Other students, on hearing what happened to their colleagues, had blocked the Owo-Akure Highway in front of their school gate and at Fasawe areas where they made bonfire. Police officials later brought in an Armour Personnel Carriers (APC) to clear the barricades after about three hours.
