Degema LGA Kicks Off Free Medical Services

A free medical outreach program, funded by the World Health Organization (WHO) and implemented by ACOMIN, was launched in Obuama Community, Degema Local Government Area, on November 7th.

The outreach, an initiative of the Rivers State Government aimed at catering for the medical needs of Rivers people across the 23 Local Government Areas in the State, is funded by the World Health Organisation, WHO, with ACOMIN as implementors.

Performing the official flag off of the medical outreach program, the Vice Chairman of Degema LGA who is also the Supervisor for Health, Mrs. Ibimina Igoni Jaja, expressed gratitude to the Rivers State Government and her partners for the laudable program.

She emphasized the importance of healthcare, particularly in light of the health emergency declared by Council Chairman Dr. Agiriye Monima Harry

Medical officer of Health (MOH) Dr. Lolia Koko, who was also a part of the team from Degema Council, disclosed that the program would cover the entire Local Government Area.

She said free malaria testing was conducted for children and adults, while on the spot treatment was provided for those who tested positive for malaria.

Koko stated that for those aged 18 years and above, free blood sugar and pressure testing were done.

She further disclosed that people could visit any health Centre for testing, because the process is continuous.

The schedule for the free medical outreach according to Koko, will take the team back to Obuama on November 8th.

The outreach program will continue as follows: Bakana on Saturday, Atala on Monday, Consulate on Tuesday, Oguruama on Wednesday, Bukuma on Thursday, Tombia on Friday, November 15th, and Bille and Ke on Monday, November 18th.
