The NDLEA Rivers State Commander, CN Ahmed Mamuda, charged the personnel of the Command to remain professional in discharging their duties, and resist any form of partisan involvement in the upcoming 2023 general elections.
While addressing officers and men of the Command during a briefing and training exercise organized internally on Tuesday 21st February, 2023, at the NDLEA Rivers State Command Headquarters in Port Harcourt, as a follow-up to the training and re-training program in conjunction with the INEC, and other sister agencies in the state which have been impactful, the Commander gave a full assurance that security coverage before, during and after the elections will be effective. He highlited the rules of engagement as Electoral Security Personnel, as proscribed by the electoral act and charged personel of the Command to remain security conscious, and desist from acts that are capable of threatening or undermining the integrity of the election.
Commander Mamuda further called on major stakeholders which include the party leaders, traditional rulers, religious bodies and citizens to make conscious efforts in ensuring that the elections are free, fair and credible in the state. He urged the voters to be civil and cast their votes in a peaceful, orderly manner, and shun all forms of electoral violence and malpractices as the security personnel would not hesitate to stop anyone who attempts to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the elections.
In addition, the Commander stated that a good number of officers and the task force unit of the command have been briefed and deployed, while the Command have already commenced dislodgement of dark spots and criminal hideouts in the state ahead of the general elections so as to disupt the drug supply chain and take out criminal elements capable of supplying drugs that may be used to induce violence during the election.
