A vigilante leader has been apprehended with human remains in Omoku, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni local government area, Africa Update has gathered.
Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement confirmed that, the OSPAC Commander, Felix Nwaobakata, was arrested in his hideout in Omoku on June 17th, 2024, where two human skulls and human bones were found in his possession.
Commander Nwaobakata who is the prime suspect in the murder of two brothers, Collins Ugorji (32) and Newman Ugorji (39), from Idu Community in ONELGA alledgedly is said to have killed the two brothers on the 1st of May 2024, with other OSPAC members on the allegation that they were kidnappers.
Also, SP Iringe-Koko stated that Tactical Units of the Command stormed the OSPAC Camp and arrested Cheta Benjamin, Joshua Ekwosa, Innocent Ahiakwu, and four others.
Similarly, the Command has said it has commenced a clampdown on the excesses of Vigilante Groups operating within the State.
The decision followed numerous complaints about the operations of the ONELGA Security and Peace Advisory Committee (OSPAC) in different parts of the State, especially in ONELGA, as well as clashes with other Security Agencies by this Vigilante Group.
Another incident propping the clampdown on the local security outfit was the killing of the Youth leader of Egbeda, Mr. Innocent Didia after a peaceful protest.
SP Iringe-Koko revealed that more arrest have been made and the suspects will be charged to court after investigation .
According to the statement, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu advised residents with complaints of assault, extortion, or illegal detention to report at the nearest police station, as the command is committed to the protection of lives and property of all citizens of the State.
