Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, the leader of a group in the Rivers State House of Assembly, who recently emerged as the Speaker, has declared that he is not afraid to die for Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara in the course of defending democracy, insisting that he escaped death on Sunday after an attack on his residence.

Ehie spoke at his residence in Port Harcourt during a press conference on Monday November 20.

He said at about 11pm on Sunday, November 19, while upstairs with his two kids and wife, he was alerted by his security personnel that there was an attempted invasion of his premises by uniformed and non uniformed men who came in Hilux vans.

Ehie alleged that the squad that shot sporadically at his residence, was led by SP Irifeke London, who is the immediate past camp commandant of the Rivers State Government House.

He revealed that the invaders were repelled by his personal security, who resisted their dogged attempt to gain access into his premises. The invaders however left after Ehie’s domestic staff threatened to stream their activities on his phone. The threat by the domestic staff reportedly saw them speeding off in their Hilux vans.

Attributing the recent attempt at his life on the political quagmire in the State, the lawmaker said his wife and two young children are still in shock.

Stressing that he is dead to fear, Ehie said no one can kill his spirit even if they killed his flesh.

His words: ” All this started when on October 30 some self seeking lawmakers attempted to impeach the duly elected Governor. The Governor went there to ascertain the level of carnage at the Assembly but the police led by the DC operations humiliated and embarrassed the Governor and his entourage.”

He opined that he is of the school of thought that believes that evil can not triumph over good. And this, he would stick to despite attempts to frame him for some nefarious activities in his local Government Area, including the gruesome murder of DSP Bako Agbashim.

Ehie, said it is indeed surprising that certain individuals are mischievously trying to link him to that incident, when he is not from the constituency where the crime occurred and suspects have been jailed for the crime.

Speaking further, he disclosed that a worded letter was sent to relevant authorities including the Inspector General of police about the happenings in the Local Government Area and expressed shock that people could attempt to link him to such an act months after.

He commended the security agencies for restoring peace to Ekpeye land and urged the Inspector General of Police to commence investigation into the attempted invasion.
