Gunmen, who kidnapped a Port Harcourt-based comedian, David Uwakwe, popularly called MC Dave aka Gbagamgbam, have demanded N25m ransom to free him.

The comedian was whisked away on Sunday by the assailants around Rumukalagbo area of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State.

He was said to be returning from a show he attended at the University of Port Harcourt area when the hoodlums seized him around 2am.

A source, who spoke in confidence, said  that the kidnappers were dressed in police uniform and covered their faces with masks.

The source said the kidnapers were on the trail of their target,  stopped him after calling him by his name and ordered him to enter a stationed vehicle.

The source said: “My friend was kidnapped on Sunday while he was returning from a show. The people that kidnapped him appeared like policemen. They even called him by his name, but they were masked.

“They took him since that Sunday around Rumukalagbor. People saw them but they cannot do anything because the people were armed and appeared as if they were police”.

The source confirmed that the criminals established contacts with their victim’s family on Wednesday and demanded N25m ransom to free him.

He said: “They have established contact with the family and they are demanding N25 million. I don’t know where they want the family to get that amount of money from.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and said the police had commenced in investigation into the development.
