The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt (Uniport), Professor Owunari Georgewill, has commended strategic partnerships as crucial for rescuing Nigerian universities from infrastructural deficits. He made this statement while receiving a N200 million 150-seater modern lecture hall donated by the Dr. Emi Membere-Otaji Foundation (DREMOF).
Professor Georgewill emphasized that government alone cannot shoulder the burden of university development, urging well-meaning individuals and organizations to support these institutions. He expressed his gratitude to Dr. Emi Membere-Otaji and his foundation for their generous contribution, stating that the new facility will significantly enhance teaching and learning within the university.
The newly furnished lecture hall boasts modern amenities and ample space to accommodate large classes. The DREMOF, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of marginalized communities, donated the state-of-the-art facility to Uniport’s Abuja Park campus in Choba, Port Harcourt.
Dr. Membere-Otaji, the founder of DREMOF and a renowned medical practitioner, expressed his pride in partnering with Uniport on this significant project. He highlighted the foundation’s commitment to education and its dedication to creating a conducive learning environment for students.
The event was well-attended by prominent figures from academia, business, and the public sector. Esueme Dan Kikile, GM Corporate Communication and Zonal Coordination at NCDMB, commended DREMOF’s efforts and encouraged other organizations to support higher education in Nigeria. Olabisi Membere-Otaji, vice president of DREMOF, was also at the event.
