Rivers State Govt. Shuts down ‘WAEC miracle centre’

The Rivers state Government has threatened to withdraw approval and deregister schools found engaging in examination malpractice.

The Rivers state commissioner for Education, Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja, handed out the warning during routine inspection of schools  participating in the ongoing Senior secondary certificate examination, SSCE.

He said the ministry in collaboration with the senior secondary schools’ board, have about thirty four teams despatched to the nook and crannies of the state.

His words “we wish to advise school owners especially private school owners, during this examination, if your school is discovered to be involved in examination malpractice we will withdraw approval and also deregister you or cancel your registration centre from WAEC”.

He reiterated, that parents and Guardians should not panic over the ministry’s closure of some schools that aided and abated examination malpractice in the ongoing SSCE and assured them that the examination will continue in the schools found wanting until the examination comes to an end.

Speaking on the issue he said ” for the benefit of those children, we will allow them finish their examination, but when we say sealed, the school is sealed after this examination there wouldn’t be any school activities till the ministry is satisfied that it will no longer be a WAEC miracle centre’.

You will recall that the commissioner and his team had apprehended the principal and two teachers from Niger Grammar School, in D/line axis of the state, for allegedly engaging in examination malpractice.
