The management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) has formally inducted its fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session during its 17th Matriculation Ceremony.
The event, held at the university’s main campus, served as a formal welcome for the new intake across various undergraduate programs.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, addressing the sea of robed students, emphasized the importance of the oath they had just taken. He urged the students to be ambassadors of the institution and warned that the university would not hesitate to expel any student involved in cultism, theft, or any form of academic dishonesty.
“Your primary purpose here is to learn and to be certified in both character and knowledge,” the VC remarked. “We provide the environment; you must provide the dedication.”
The atmosphere was filled with a mix of relief and pride as the ceremony concluded.
For many of the matriculants, the day represented the culmination of a rigorous admission process. “It feels surreal to finally wear this gown,” said Chidi, a freshman in the Department of Political Science. “I know the expectations are high, but seeing so many of us here today gives me the motivation to stay focused and make my family proud.”
Another student, Amina from the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, shared her excitement about the academic journey ahead. “IAUE has a reputation for excellence in teacher education. I’m looking forward to the hands-on learning and the community life on campus.”
Parents and guardians, many of whom traveled from across the state and beyond, were seen capturing the moment with photographs and cheers.
“As a father, there is no greater joy than seeing your child take this first official step into adulthood,” said Mr. Benson, whose daughter matriculated into the Faculty of Education. “We have high hopes for the quality of training she will receive here, and we trust the management to keep these children safe and focused.”
Mrs. Okon, another parent, expressed her gratitude for the smooth conduct of the ceremony. “The organization was impressive. We are happy that our children are in an institution that values discipline. We will continue to support them from home as they begin this new chapter.”
The ceremony concluded with the traditional academic procession and the singing of the national anthem. Following the formal proceedings, the campus grounds were transformed into a site of celebration as families hosted small receptions for their newest undergraduates.
