The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni, has achieved a significant milestone in its pursuit of academic excellence, securing full accreditation for twenty-one of its undergraduate programmes.

The announcement was formalised in a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, dated Tuesday, 7th April 2026. The correspondence, signed by the Director of Accreditation, Engineer Abraham Chundusu, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, confirms that the affected courses met the stringent quality assurance standards required by the regulatory body.

The accreditation exercise, which serves as a vital benchmark for institutional quality and research capacity, saw successful outcomes across five major faculties. The programmes accorded full accreditation status include:

Validity and Institutional Impact

Under the NUC regulatory framework, the full accreditation status for these programmes remains valid for a period of five years. This development is expected to bolster the university’s reputation as a premier destination for higher learning in Nigeria, particularly within the South-South region.

The National Universities Commission remains the primary arbiter of quality in the Nigerian university system, with a mandate focused on ensuring academic standards, fostering research, and expanding access to high-quality education.

In a statement released by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Ngozi Okiridu, the institution expressed satisfaction with the results, noting that the achievement reflects the administration’s commitment to providing students with an education that is both competitive and recognised globally.

The successful accreditation is also seen as a testament to the leadership of Professor Okechuku Onuchuku and his team in maintaining the requisite infrastructure and personnel to satisfy national benchmarks for professional and academic training.
