Some little Children were rescued from suspected kidnapers by members of a local vigilante group at Rumuekini community in Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The suspects were arrested on Wednesday, while conveying about 25 school children in two buses. Africa Update gathered that the Children were between five and Twelve years old.
A member of the local vigilante, Job Peter said that one of the buses was apprehended while the second bus fled. It is however unclear if the bus that fled was carrying some of the school children.
Peter said during the interrogation of the suspects by the vigilante group, one suspect confessed that they were taking the children to Egbeda in Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State for voters’ registration, while another member of the vigilante group said the children were lured with N1,000.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko has assured that an investigation into the matter has commenced, with the suspects securely held in police custody.
