Tragedy in Port Harcourt: House help kills boss’ only child, commits suicide

A deeply shocking incident has rocked the Agip Estate area of Port Harcourt following the brutal murder of a seven-year-old child by a house help, who subsequently died from self-inflicted injuries.

The deceased child, identified as Alicia Olajumoke, was the only daughter of her parents.

According to a preliminary police report issued on November 26, the incident occurred on Monday, November 25, 2025, at approximately 2:00 PM (1400 hours) at No. 21 Okabia Street, Agip Estate, Rumueme.

The police account revealed a chilling sequence of events. The victim’s mother, Ms. Glory Joseph, reported at the station that her daughter, Alicia Olajumoke, was stabbed to death by the house help, identified only as Success (female, surname yet unknown).

The preliminary investigation indicates the suspect, Success who was also described as the female partner of the deceased child’s mother’s brother allegedly went to the child’s school, picked her up, and brought her back to the residence. Once inside the house, the suspect stabbed the seven-year-old to death before inflicting a stab wound on her own throat.

Police swiftly mobilized, visiting the crime scene to take photographs and commence their preliminary investigation. Both the victim and the suspect were rushed to the hospital. Sadly, both were confirmed dead upon arrival.

The corpse of young Alicia Olajumoke has been deposited at the morgue pending an autopsy. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for detailed inquiry.

Police confirmed that the preliminary investigation is ongoing and promised to communicate further developments to the public. The tragic incident has brought into sharp focus the security measures and vetting processes for domestic staff across the city.
