Soldiers of 146 Battalion deployed in Bonny Island have killed two criminals during a gun duel in a raid at identified pirates and militants hideout in Arugbanama Community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers state.
Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj. John Enenche said the troops were deployed for the mission on 12 May 2020.
He said the troops recovered some items after the operation, which include: one AK 47 Rifle, one Pump Action Rifle, one Pistol, seven AK 47 Rifle magazines, one Pistol magazine, one round of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 102 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
Other items recovered according to the media coordinator are: three rounds of 9mm ball ammunition, one live cartridge, one camouflage uniform, one head gear, one speed boat and Four 85 Horse Power engines.
Enenche also said that in the early hours of 12 May 2020, troops of 3 Battalion (Rear) arrested a suspected criminal named Stephen Eboje during a routine patrol along Warri-Sapele Road in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State and recovered one AK 47 Rifle from the suspect.
He said the Military high command had congratulated the gallant troops for their “resilience, courage and dedication to the noble cause of defending our fatherland against the criminal elements.”
He urged the public to continue to provide credible information to the military on criminality in their environment.
