Security Services Apprehend Man in Port Harcourt Over Explicit Calls for Military Coup

Port Harcourt, Rivers State — The Department of State Services (DSS) confirmed on Tuesday the apprehension of a man in the Oyigbo area of Port Harcourt, following his use of a social media platform to explicitly solicit a military takeover of the Federal Government.

The suspect, formally identified by the DSS as Innocent Chukwuma, was taken into custody after posting a series of highly inflammatory comments on his X (formerly Twitter) account, @TheAgroman. The posts unequivocally urged the Armed Forces to “suspend the Nigerian government” and demanded the disposal of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a quoted post that has garnered significant attention from security analysts, Mr Chukwuma’s appeal was stark:

“A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigerian Government, and join the AES. That is all we need now… Only the military can reset this country. Support them.”

The post went further, alleging that the nation’s democratic leadership had “basically sold this country to the West,” making the military the sole viable option for national restoration.

According to a statement from the security service, officers successfully trailed Mr Chukwuma to his location in Oyigbo, Rivers State, where the arrest was effected. A source close to the on-going investigation has confirmed that the suspect is currently co-operating fully with investigators.

The DSS has not yet disclosed whether formal charges have been filed against Mr Chukwuma. Authorities frequently investigate and may prosecute individuals whose public utterances are judged to amount to incitement or a direct threat to national security and democratic governance.
