The Rivers State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in a harrowing case of conspiracy and homicide involving the death of Mr. Shedrack Ogadinma Chukwem, a 42-year-old resident of the Umuemeshie Community in Igbo-Etche.

Following an exhaustive and unrelenting investigation by operatives attached to the Anti-Cultism Unit (Emuohia Annex), law enforcement successfully tracked and arrested 29-year-old Robinson Uche in the early hours of 6th March 2026. Mr. Uche, a native of Umuechem, has reportedly provided a detailed confession regarding his involvement in the illicit operation that led to the victim’s demise.

According to the suspect’s testimony, the chain of events began on 17th December 2025. Uche alleged that he, alongside four accomplices identified by aliases such as “Onyia-Army” and “Nnaye” were purportedly commissioned by a local figure, Chief Elijah Okere, to forcibly bring Mr. Chukwem to his palace.

The confrontation escalated when the group intercepted the deceased during a family gathering. The suspect claimed that when the attempt to “arrest” the victim failed, the group resorted to lethal force, shooting Mr. Chukwem and causing his immediate death. In an effort to conceal the crime, the perpetrators transported the remains to a secluded forest in Ekerre-Ugbor, where they interred the body in a shallow grave.

Acting on the suspect’s admissions, Police operatives were led to the burial site. The remains of Mr. Chukwem were successfully exhumed and have since been deposited at the Military Hospital Mortuary, where a formal autopsy will be conducted to assist in the ongoing prosecution.

In an official statement released on 18th March 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed that the Command is currently intensifying efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects who fled following the incident.
