Rivers: Policemen gun down kidnapper, rescue Twelve passengers from forest

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Rivers State command have rescued twelve passengers who were kidnapped on Monday, January 28, along the Rumuekpe axis of the East West Road, en route Warri City in Delta State.

Confirming the rescue to newsmen, the spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, said officers attached to the anti kidnap unit had combed the forest in Rumuekpe community, where twelve passengers were rescued after a fierce gun battle with the kidnappers.

He disclosed that the officers were able to gun down one of the kidnappers while the others fled with two passengers.

Omoni assured the public that the command is on the trail of the fleeing kidnappers in a bid to rescue the remaining passengers, and expressed hope that the kidnappers will be apprehended soon.

Africa update gathered that riffles were recovered from the kidnappers” den during the operation.

You will recall that daredevil kidnappers had opened fire on a commercial bus conveying 14 passengers to Warri in the early  hours of Monday, killing the driver of the vehicle on the spot, while 14 passengers were taken hostage.
