Rivers Police arrests a gang of fake bank alert syndicate

The police in Rivers State said it has arrested a gang of fraudsters who specialize in generating fake bank alerts. The state commissioner of police, Ahmed Zarki said the five man gang was arrested by men of the IGP monitoring unit in Port Harcourt.
The Commissioner of police told journalists that the fraudsters were arrested while trying to sell off goods they secure d with a fake alert.
Ahmed Zarki advised citizens to confirm all bank alerts. He said, ”Once you receive an alert, confirm from your bank whether the money has been deposited in your account”. He said the fraudsters deceive the owners of the goods that they have paid money into their account when they haven’t. ”They deceive the owners of the goods that they have paid money into their account and at the end of the day, when they went to check in the bank, they found out that there was no money, nothing was deposited. They are experts so whenever you send anything to anybody, make sure when he say he has paid into your account, you confirm it”, he said.

The parades suspects confessed to the crime when speaking with newsmen.
