Police recovers over N60million from a parked vehicle inside a supermarket

The Rivers State police command has recovered more than N60million allegedly stolen by a bullion van driver, at the premises of Everyday supermarket.

Africa update gathered that the bullion van was hired by a commercial bank on Friday,  to convey money from Aba, a city in  Abia State  to Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Addressing journalists in port harcourt,  Deputy Commissioner of Police, Uche Anozie said , “Useful information was received by me in my office that a certain ford explorer was parked at the premises of a supermarket called Everyday supermarket,  located at no. 2 Elelenwo street, GRA , Phase 2.

“What actually elicited the suspicion of the security officer of the supermarket was that the glasses of this particular vehicle were veiled with black cellophane bag and the vehicle belongs to the company. And so, in the cause of his visiting round, he stumbled on this particular vehicle” he stated.

He further hinted that on thorough search, the police recovered N60,250,000 from the vehicle, and urged bank executives to ensure that they attach members of staff to hired bullion vans to curb diversion and theft.
