Police officers snatch APC chieftain from prison Officials

There was tension at the Rivers State Judiciary Complex , yesterday when an argument ensued between police and prison officials over the custody of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and House of Assembly candidate for Andoni Constituency during the December 10 rerun, Dr. Awaji Dresman.

The magistrate Court presided over by A.O. Amadi had granted the accused bail in the sum of N1million and one surety in like sum after he was dragged to court by the police on four count of conspiracy to steal, official corruption and abuse of office.

Africa Update gathered that Dr. Dresman was accused of allegedly stealing from the Rivers State Government by continuously receiving his salary despite resigning as a medical Doctor .

It was disclosed that the accused was an employee of a Primary Health care center which was under the supervision of the Ministry of Health, before his resignation.

According to our source, the melodrama between the police officers and prison officials occurred shortly after the verdict of the magistrate. Prison officials had insisted that the accused would be taken back to the prison facility for the necessary paper works before his release, but the police officers had insisted that they had the authority to take him into custody pending the rectification of his bail conditions.

This claim led to the argument and the accused was however whisked away by heavily armed police officers.
