There is apprehension at Oyigbo Local Government Area in Rivers State, following the invasion of the operational base of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, by unknown gunmen on Thursday.
According to reports, the raid allegedly led to the death of one of the officers, while properties were reportedly damaged. Eyewitnesses said the SARS operatives had opened fire on some indigenes who were fortified with charms on the eve of independence day, which triggered the attack on the base. Another source disclosed that the attack was as a result of alleged illegal arrests and extortion by SARS operatives from the base.
