Concern has been raised over the alleged abduction and killing of a businessman, Mr Kingsley Igwe, popularly known as “Doctor Kingsley”, in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State.
The incident, described as a deeply disturbing development, has prompted renewed concerns about insecurity and the apparent normalisation of violent crime in the community.
In a statement issued by People’s Parliament and signed by Ugorji Obieti, the organisation expressed concern that the killing had received little public attention, alleging that community leaders, residents and security agencies had remained largely silent about the incident.
The statement described Igwe, an indigene of Orlu, Imo State, as a long-time resident of Omoku who lived peacefully with his family and contributed significantly to the economic and social development of the community.
According to the statement, Igwe was an entrepreneur who established several businesses in Omoku, including a pharmacy and cosmetics shop located along Ahoada Road, near the Catholic Church and opposite the former Capstone Clinic.
He was also said to have operated a commercial piggery farm along Obor Road, Omoku, and served as chairman of the Chemists Association of ONELGA.
The statement described the deceased as a humble, kind and community-minded businessman who was committed to the welfare of residents and maintained cordial relationships with members of the community.
Igwe was also identified as a committed Christian and a prominent member of Dunamis International Gospel Centre in Omoku, where he was said to have played an important role in the growth and development of the church.
According to People’s Parliament, the incident occurred early last week when suspected gunmen allegedly contacted Igwe by telephone and lured him to his piggery farm on Obor Road under the pretext of wanting to purchase pigs from him.
The statement alleged that upon his arrival at the farm, the gunmen abducted him and subsequently demanded a ransom of N7 million from his family.
It further alleged that after the ransom was paid, the abductors killed Igwe and dumped his body at the bank of the Idu River.
His remains were reportedly recovered from the river bank on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, according to the statement.
The deceased’s wife and children were said to have conveyed his remains to Orlu, Imo State, on Wednesday, August 12, for burial.
People’s Parliament condemned the killing and described it as a tragic reminder of the growing threat posed by criminality and violence to residents and business owners.
The organisation called for greater attention to the security situation in Omoku and urged relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding Igwe’s abduction and death.
It also appealed for greater community vigilance and stronger collaboration between residents and security agencies to prevent similar incidents and ensure that those responsible for the killing are brought to justice.
The organisation’s statement concluded by commending Igwe’s contributions to Omoku and ONELGA and offering prayers for the repose of his soul.
