Ibadan, Nigeria — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), through its South West Zonal Mining Marshals, has intercepted multiple trucks along the Oyo–Ibadan axis suspected of conveying illegally mined lithium. The operation is part of the Corps’ intensified effort to combat mineral resource theft across the region.

The interception occurred during routine patrol and surveillance, according to a statement released on Saturday by the National Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, CSC Babawale Zaid Afolab. Upon inspection, operatives found that some of the vehicles were operating without the requisite valid licenses or permits, while others presented questionable documents in an attempt to disguise their illegal activities.

Securing Consignments and Ensuring Justice

The NSCDC assured the Nigerian public that the seized consignments have been secured and that a thorough investigation is underway to ensure all individuals behind the illegal activities are brought to justice.

The Corps emphasized the severe consequences of this criminal enterprise, noting that illegal mining not only deprives the country of essential revenue but also causes significant environmental damage and fuels insecurity in local communities.

“NSCDC remains steadfast in the fight against this menace and calls on members of the public to support ongoing operations by providing credible information. Together, we can safeguard our environment, our economy, and the future of our people,” the statement concluded, appealing for public cooperation to secure national resources.
