NDLEA Rivers State Command records conviction of 256 male, 56 female drug barons, seize 2.332 tonnes of hard drugs in 2022

About 312 suspects comprising 256 men and 56 women are now cooling their heels behind bars, according to a statement released to Africa Update by the Deputy State Commander, Media and Advocacy, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA Rivers State Command, DCN Emmanuel Ogbumgbada,.

The statement released by the Command on Saturday, said 2.332 tonnes of hard drugs such as cocaine, heroin, Cannabis Sativa, methamphetamine (aka Mkpurunmiri), tramadol, Diazapam, and other psychotropic substances were seized within this period.

The statement reads: “From January to December 2022, NDLEA Rivers State Command arrested 312 suspects comprising 256 males and 56 females with hard drugs weighing 2,332kg (2.332 tonnes), such as cocaine, heroin, Cannabis Sativa, methamphetamine (aka Mkpurunmiri), tramadol, Diazapam, and other psychotropic substances.

The command also secured conviction of 119 drug offenders and have 115 pending cases at the Federal High court, Port Harcourt. The convicts are serving various jail terms at the Correctional service centre, Port Harcourt.

The Command also successfully rehabilitated 40 drug dependent persons in her makeshift rehabilitation centre, and also conducted anti-drug abuse campaign to various schools, communities, NGO’s, religious groups, traditional kingdoms and corporate organisations in Rivers State.

The State Commander, Commander Ahmed Mamuda, while expressing appreciation to the people of Rivers state for collaborating with NDLEA in the fight against drug abuse in 2022 further advised Rivers people to continue to partner with the agency in 2023 so that together we can stamp out drug menace from our society.”
