Calabar, Nigeria — The Cross River State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Morrison Ogbonna, was found dead in his hotel room early hours of Thursday. The discovery was made by his officers, who had arrived to pick him up for a scheduled assignment.
A source, who requested anonymity, disclosed that when the officers’ knocks on the commander’s door went unanswered, they alerted the hotel management, who then opened the room and found him dead.
Ogbonna, who had just been transferred to Cross River to replace Rachel Umebuali in August, had only been in the state for a short period. The cause of his death is currently unknown.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo-Obase, confirmed the death but stated that she could not provide details on the cause. The police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the commander’s death.
