The anti-militancy team of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Bonny Island, Rivers State, has raided a major criminal hideout in the Asaramatoru Community, leading to the arrest of three suspects and the disturbing discovery of a shrine and a decomposing human skull.
The operation, carried out on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in conjunction with the 115 Special Operations Group of the Nigerian Air Force, targeted a notorious camp in Asaramatoru Community, situated in the Andoni Local Government Area, approximately 40 nautical miles from the Atlantic Ocean.
In a statement released on Friday by Lieutenant Commander Almustapha, the Base Operations Officer (BOO) of FOB Bonny, the success of the joint security operation was confirmed.
“On Wednesday 26 November 2025, FOB BONNY anti-militancy Team in conjunction with 115 Special Operations Group Nigerian Air Force, raided an identified criminal’s camp at Asaramatoru Community. During the raid, three persons were arrested in connection with the Camp,” the statement read.
The shocking findings were revealed following a thorough search of the camp. Lt. Cdr. Almustapha confirmed that the team recovered various arms and ammunition, in addition to several other items.
“Further search through the forest revealed a concealed Shrine with assorted charms and a decomposing human skull,” the statement disclosed, suggesting the hideout may have been used for ritualistic or occult activities linked to criminality.
The BOO emphasized that the operation aligns with the strategic objectives of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Admiralty Medal), aimed at safeguarding national infrastructure and securing the nation’s economy.
The FOB Bonny continues to execute various operational activities, including routine patrols, anti-Crude Oil Theft (COT), anti-illegal bunkering, and anti-militancy operations. These patrols are critical for protecting national infrastructure and securing commercial routes within the Base’s Area of Operation (AOO).
Lt. Cdr. Almustapha asserted: “Consequent upon this, the Base would continue to carry out its operational activities towards denying criminal elements freedom of action within FOB BONNY AOO in line with the Base’s mandate.”
The arrested suspects and recovered exhibits are expected to be handed over to relevant law enforcement agencies for further investigation and prosecution.
