Mass Graves Uncovered as Operation HADIN KAI Intensifies Offensive in the Timbuktu Triangle

The gallant troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OHK) have unmasked the true scale of terrorist losses following the discovery of mass graves during a heightened offensive in the Timbuktu Triangle. This grim find, coupled with the successful clearance of several strategic hideouts, underscores the mounting pressure being exerted by the Nigerian military on remnants of the extremist groups.

The discovery of mass graves, containing the remains of approximately 20 terrorists buried by their fleeing comrades, served as a focal point of a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba. According to Uba, this revelation not only exposes the high casualty rates suffered by the insurgents but also serves to thoroughly discredit their ongoing propaganda efforts.

The offensive saw troops successfully clear and dominate notorious terrorist enclaves, including Tergejeri, Chiralia, and the Ajigin/Abirma axis. Under a barrage of overwhelming firepower, the insurgents were forced to abandon their fortified positions, retreating further into the hinterlands.

On the 20th of January 2026, as forces consolidated their positions roughly six kilometres north of Chilaria, they were met with a desperate counter-measure: two Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs).

Whilst one car bomb was expertly neutralised by the troops, the second managed to breach the defensive line, causing damage to logistics platforms. Lieutenant Colonel Uba confirmed with deep regret that several soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) paid the supreme price during this encounter.

“The sacrifice of these brave individuals in the line of duty remains a somber reminder of the costs of liberty. Their gallantry in the face of such asymmetric threats will not be forgotten,” the statement read.

Those injured in the blast were immediately evacuated via Nigerian Army Aviation helicopters, supported by a continuous air cover provided by Nigerian Air Force (NAF) platforms to ensure the safety of both the casualties and the remaining ground troops.

Despite the intermittent contact with fleeing elements, the military command reports that the overall security situation across the theatre remains stable. The discovery of the mass graves has provided a morale boost to the troops, serving as tangible evidence of the efficacy of their current strategy.

Lieutenant Colonel Uba reaffirmed that the resolve of Operation HADIN KAI remains unshaken. The military intends to maintain relentless pressure on the Timbuktu Triangle to ensure the complete restoration of peace and the protection of civilian lives throughout the North East.
